Old Deuteronomy

Old Deuteronomy is VERY old. He is the leader of the Jellicles. Old Deuteronomy is very loved and respected, even by humans. He's buried nine wives, and is probably the father of a lot of the Jellicles, specifically Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger.

Old Deuteronomy is very wise. The Jellicle Ball can't begin without him because only he knows how to open up the Heaviside Layer. It is Old Deuteronomy who chooses the cat that will be reborn into a new life. It is almost time for him to choose a new leader of the tribe, and it will probably be Munkustrap that the knowledge is passed on to.

All of the cats love Old Deuteronomy, and they are heartbroken when he is captured by Macavity. Luckily Mistoffelees is able to bring him back, and the Jellicle Ball continues.

Deuteronomy - the fifth book of the Hebrew Bible.
