Demeter is a full-grown queen. She is very tense and afraid, especially of the toms. Whenever Macavity comes around she is very frightened and her sister, Bombalurina, comforts her. Demeter was once kidnapped by Macavity and raped, or else she had a relationship with him that went wrong. Whatever the case, she does not want to be anywhere near him anymore. Macavity tried to kidnap her after she and Bomby finished singing about him, but she was saved by Alonzo.

Demeter tells us about Grizabella's past. I think Demeter feels close to Grizabella because they have both have had hard lives so far. She doesn't seem to hate Griz as much as the other adult cats do.

Demeter is Munkustrap's mate. She is not afraid of him, and they are seen together quite often in the musical. Not so much that I have seen in the movie, but in London they were very close. Demeter might be Electra's mother, her father may be Munkustrap.

Demeter - the Greek goddess of grain and agriculture, the pure nourisher of youth and the green earth, the health-giving cycle of life and death, and preserver of marriage and the sacred law. According to the Athenian rhetorician Isocrates, the greatest gifts which Demeter gave were cereal (thus the Latin name for Ceres) which made man different from wild animals, and the Mysteries which give man higher hopes in this life and the afterlife.
